Where to turn when you are under fire (Part 2)

This past year, my husband and I were under a huge, scary attack.  Someone was taking us to court claiming that we owed them over $60,000.  We had to hire a lawyer and spend hundreds of hours (I say, ‘we’, but it was all my husband) tracking down records, bank statements, tax returns, and other documents relative to this case.  It was so scary and intimidating to read the letters from the opposing attorney, to think about what would happen to us if we lost, and just to hear the constant threats from this individual.  While we felt convinced that this person didn’t have a case, we had both had experiences in court or knew of situations where the truth didn’t matter.  We had seen legal situations where the truth was suppressed and lies prevailed.  The subsequent rulings were bogus and good people suffered great loss.

So with those nightmare scenarios in the back of our minds, we kept giving it back to the Lord.  We found scriptures that spoke to us about our victory over the enemy and about God’s greatness that encouraged us and lifted us like drowning people out of the whirlpool of threats. When one of us went into a panic, the other one spoke boldly and sometimes loudly about how God is faithful and His Word is true.

After 18 months of legal processes, our verdict came back – and we WON!  And not only did we win, but the judge ruled in such a way that our opponent would have been foolish to appeal.

And here’s the really cool part.  While the court case was being heard, my daughter who was praying for us, felt impressed to pull over to the side of road and really pray hard.  And when she did, she told me that it was as though she was transported into the courtroom.  She saw my husband and attorney on one side and the opposing party and their attorney on the other.  And then she saw Jesus.  She thought in her mind that Jesus would approach her step-dad and comfort him, because at the time she was praying, things seemed to be going badly for our side.

But to her surprise and amazement, she saw Jesus go up to the opposition and kneel down in front of their table.  He was appealing to this person to cease from their attacks – but they would not listen.  My daughter said she saw the anger and bitterness that was engulfing this person preventing the love of the Lord from penetrating.  Then Jesus got up and walked behind my husband and put his hands on his shoulders.

What my daughter could not have known was that at the exact time she pulled over into the parking lot to pray, things started to turn in that courtroom.  All of the terrible lies and schemes of the enemy were beginning to be uncovered and the judge began to see the truth.  It was nothing short of a miracle that shows that God is still fighting for is children.  He is a loving Savior who will always implore the lost to turn around.  But once a decision is made towards evil, the Lord is there to vindicate his kids.

Now you:

• Put yourself in remembrance: If you’re facing a frightening situation right now, put yourself in remembrance of the power of God in your life previously. I bet you can think of a situation where God moved in such a way that you were grateful for days. Think back to that time and remember how fearful you had been, how terrible the opposite outcome could have been and how amazing it was when the Lord showed up and caused everything to turn around.  Give Him thanks again for His power and authority breaking out over your enemy in that past experience and praise Him for the victory you are still waiting for.
• Find Scriptures that remind you of God’s power and authority over every principality, power and name that is named. After you write them down, place them is spots in your house, your car or workplace where you will see them and be reminded of the truth.  As that Word becomes a part of you, you will have more authority and confidence while you pray.

Romans 8:31-39: More Than Conquerors

³¹ What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? ³² He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? ³³ Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. ³⁴ Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. ³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?³⁶ As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”^[j]

³⁷ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. ³⁸ For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,^[k] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, ³⁹ neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
